5G is the next generation of mobile internet connectivity.
It’s faster, more reliable and will inspire an entirely new selection of mobile data solutions to the point where it rivals the fibre network as a robust and capable internet connection.
Sounds good, huh?
Although 5G networks are expected to appear across the world by the end of 2020, working alongside existing 3G and 4G technology, as with the launch of both 3G and 4G the market has possibly exaggerated the immediacy of the impact on the world. Main cities will be catered for first, with smaller towns to be affected later. And no one has committed to covering rural areas – leaving any business that’s now putting their sites there to reduce cost and improve access – at the end of the list.
Then there’s the hardware. Every router, mobile phone, and tablet must be compatible with 5G. And 5G masts need to go up – it’s not as simple as just flicking a switch.
So, the reality is that the highest 4G speeds rival low 5G speeds (tests in central London achieved 5G download speeds of 150Mbps), the 4G network is now mature – covering approx. 65% of the UK and with the high-profile launch of 5G – costs will reduce against 4G plans. You can take advantage of this – deploying 4G across the business for a lower cost and having a wider variety of hardware available to you, with a view to start any upgrade to 5G in the next 12 – 24 months. That way you have time to plan a controlled roll out keeping everyone informed and up to date and ensuring you get the right service for the job.
As someone who gets excited about new technology and where it can take us – I know 5G is going to be a big part of the world affecting the way we do things. We will be able to do more and with the move to Cloud services it’ll be a game-changer, but as someone who has worked in the mobile technology market for some time now, I would recommend that every business take the time to think about what they want to achieve and where they want to go – then talk to someone like me in the industry to help get you there. With the right advice your 4G services will compliment then translate over to 5G positively and your business will benefit in every way.
If you’d like to know more about it just let us know – most things start with a conversation, and we’re always happy to talk.
